Last Day of School

What an emotional few days! This morning I had the pleasure of going to my FIRST Last Walk at LHS. My fifth graders from my first year at Central are now graduating! I could not be more proud! It was such an honor to shake their hands and give them a hug as they walked by this morning...Where does the time go? Their futures are SO BRIGHT!!!
I returned from Last Walk to greet my fifth graders heading to the park for the annual picnic. Thank you to all the parents and teachers who make this such a successful event each year! As I looked at each fifth grader, I thought about their senior year/Last Walk...time will go by so quickly!
Thank you for all of your support this year!
I hope that you and your family have a wonderful summer!!

The Central Spring Carnival is a GO!!! Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help! Please email the principal if you are still willing to help! No help will be turned away!!!

We hope to have the "Cooking with the Stars - Central Elementary Cookbook" in by the carnival! Special thanks to Angi Stump and her team of amazing ladies!!!

Hasn't the weather been incredible?!!! I love watching the flowers and trees bloom! Our memorial tree looked beautiful out front this last week!

Today I had the chance to sit in on first graders watching a LIVE webcast of Mrs. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus!!! The author and illustrator were being interviewed about the new Magic School Bus about going green! All the first graders enjoyed being a part of this live educational experience!!!

Tomorrow is Secretary Day!!! We are so thankful for Mrs. Kennedy and her 40 years of service to Central Elementary School! Please stop by tomorrow or give her a call to say thanks at 482-2000!

Next week is the start of the second round of ISTEP+ testing for all students in GR3-5! Please try to limit appointments to the afternoon only next week. Students should have lots of rest and a great breakfast to start the day. Testing should be done by lunch each day. Thanks for all of your support!

Are you amazed that it is already April 14th?! Time is flying by... I thought I would share some recent highlights:

Kudos to our 5th graders and our wonderful nurse! On April 12 over 46 fifth graders received their immunizations for sixth grade for FREE! They were so brave! Special thanks to the Boone County Health Department for making this as painless as possible!

Spring Pictures are this FRIDAY! No money needed at this time. You will have the option of buying or returning the picture packet when it arrives.

April 21 is Secretary Day!!! Did you know that Mrs. Kennedy has been our amazing secretary for 40 years!?!!! How incredible is that?!!! We will be celebrating Mrs. Kennedy Day on April 21st!!!

Book Fair is coming up next week! Family Night is Monday 5-7pm and during the Carnival on Friday night 5:30-7:30pm. Thanks Mrs. Wood!

Our Spring Carnival is FRIDAY April 23 from 5:30-8pm!! We have an International theme this year!!!! Come join in the fun!! Special thanks to Mrs. Moss for chairing the event this year!!!!

Friday, April 2

I love this time of year! The flowers are starting to bloom and the trees are starting to bud! We are all very ready for spring break (April 5-9)! At the same time I am reminded that April 7th will mark the one year anniversary of Denise McLaughlin's passing (our former school nurse). It is hard to believe that she has been gone that long. After spring break we will put out her memorial bench in front of the school and her last school picture will be hung outside the clinic. Our thoughts are with her husband and family during this difficult time of year.
I wish you all a blessed Easter and a safe spring break,
Marie

NEW SCHOOL YEARBOOK FORMAT!!!
Part of our goal this year at Central has been to become more technology savy...So we are moving to a school yearbook that is created online! The format is very similar to Shutterfly and Facebook. The yearbooks will be ordered online and passed out to your child just like the traditional yearbook, but here is the FUN part: YOU can personalize 4 pages in your child's yearbook if you would like!!! 4 pages of photos of your child with their class or friends or on field trips, etc. You can even share photos with friends or teachers. Some of our teachers are creating "class" pages that you could choose to select! Want to check it out?

Monday, March 8

Well, what a time it has been. As many of you know, my aunt has been on a ventilator for the last 4 weeks. On Sunday, she passed away surrounded by our family. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
This week the goal is to finish ISTEP+ make-up tests for those who were absent.

WEDNESDAY is a BIG day at Central Elementary! Market Day Pickup, Papa John's Pizza Night, AND Egypt Family Art Night! Egypt Family Art Night is 6-8pm here at Central. This is a program brought to us by the Indianapolis Children's Museum!!! Do you remember the Chihuly Glass Family Art Night last year? It was a blast! We could still use a few adult volunteers if you are available!

Have a great week!
